Dr. Geetha Reddy and her husband Ramachandra Reddy left medical profession in Saudi Arabia and returned to India on the invitation of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi with whom he interacted during a programme in Saudi. She joined Congress party in 1985 and worked for four years. She contested from Gajwel constituency for the first time on Congress ticket in 1989 Assembly elections and won. But she could not retain her seat in 1994 and 1997 elections. However, she wrested her seat in 1999 and again stood victorious in 2004 from Gajwel constituency. In 2000 she was made as president of state Mahila Congress and later in 2009, she contested from Zaheerabad reserved constituency as Gajwel declared for open category. She joined the cabinet of Dr. Marri Chenna Reddy as minister of information and also major industries. Again she was inducted by Kotla Vijayabhaskar Reddy into his cabinet as minister of tourism and information department and then by Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy and given portfolios of Sugar, major industries. Finally former Chief Minister K. Rosaiah also took her into his cabinet.
After her victory in 2014 election as Congress candidate, despite TRS wave, she was made public accounts committee chairman of Telangana Legislative Assembly.
Development activities: As a minister, she developed Zaheerabad by getting funds from previous Congress governments. But, now she has only few funds at her disposal as she is in opposition.

Dr. Geetha and her husband are staunch followers and belivers of Bhagawan Sri Satya Saibaba. She was dragged into controversy of her alleged involvement in disproportionate assets of Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy and later the CBI dropped the case.
