History

Reservation: SC
Mandals in constituency: Vikarabad, Dharur, Marpalli, Mominpet, Bantwaram and Kotapally. Except six villages in Kotapally, all the remaining villages are the part of Bantwaram mandal prior to the delimitation of the constituencies. The six villages of Kotapally come under Thandur Assembly while the rest comes under Vikarabad Assembly.

Methuku Anand and his wife are famous doctors in Vikarabad. He conducts free medical camps, distributes medicines for free and encourages the government school students who excelled in SSC.
Working as a government teacher he joined "Dalit Intellectuals' Forum", S. Devadas has been participating in various conferences, programmes to talk about development issues. He is also looking forward to enter into political fray.
The highly educated K. Srinivas, the principal of Vikas Junior College, played a key role during the Telangana movement. He is also working for Vikarabad District Development Forum that has been founded to fight on the district's problems.

Ongoing Programmes

Mission Bhagiratha project, Mission Kakatiya scheme, school buildings and roads construction works are in progress. Alongside, double bedroom houses works are also commenced.

Pending issues

Ananthagiri hasn't been developed completely as a tourist spot. Jungle Park, super speciality hospital, ORR, study circle, MMTS and other development works are still in pending process. Cold storages, sugar factory and Rural University are some of the long pending issues in the constituency. Though the constituency is well known for education, it lacks a Government degree college. Promises regarding the establishment of education, IT and agriculture-related industries are not worked out so far.

Important places

Anantagiri Hills known as Telangana Ooty are located six kilometres away from Vikarabad. It is said that Sri Anantha Padmanabha Swamy was self-manifested around thousand years in the locality. Muchukunda river, later termed as Musi river, is originated from this hills only. Bugga Rama Lingeswara Swamy, Sanaischara Swamy (Enkatala), Lord Hanuman (Bandabavi) and Sri Satyanarayana Swamy (Mallikarjunagiri) temples are famous places to visit in and around Vikarabad.

Interesting Points

Been a special place for movements, Vikarabad constituency has a special mention in the Telangana state movement. The place has played a pivotal role during the movements led by Chenna Reddy. Been a part Nizam dynasty, Vikarabad was named after Sir Viqar ul-Umara Bahadur, the then Prime Minister (1893-1901) of Nizam. Over the years, Vikarabad emerged with the inclusion of Alampally, Sivareddypeta and Gangaram villages. Sir Viqar ul-Umara Bahadur used to fond of palaces. So, he constructed many palaces and one of them with 101 doors is using now as the RDO office in the place. And he also constructed Manzil Palace which was named after his son Nawab Sultan ul Mulk. He used to visit Vikarabad, Dharur, Anantagiri and other places with his family. He also found many medicinal plants. Later he founded a TB Sanatorium that helped to cure many patients suffered from TB. The hospital has a speciality in Asia.
