Salahuddin Owaisi was strong leader from MIM. He winning spree started in 1984 by winning the election from Khairatabad Parliamentary segment.
Since then he has served as MP until 2004 when this mantle was transferred to his son Asaduddin Owaisi. Before he withdrew from politics he served as member of parliament for nearly 20 years from 1984 to 2004 registering six consequtive wins during this period.
Asaduddin's political career began in 1994 when he was elected MLA from Charminar, and he went to record his second major victory in the subsequent elections of 1999. He became MP for the first time from Hyderabad in 2004 by winning against BJP Candidate Subhash Chanderji with a significant majority of 1lakh votes.
He kept increasing his victory-marjin of votes in the subsequent elections by registering a win in 2009 parliamentary election with a majority of 1.13 lakh votes and then by another win in 2014 elections with an astounding marjin of 2lakh votes.
Another striking phase of his career was when he stood by Manmohan Singh's Government in 2009 when the latter lost the support of Left parties after the government signed a civil nuclear nuclear deal with USA.
While supporting Congress at that time, Asaduddin created ripples in the politics by declaring that that his intention was to keep BJP away fro power and prevent L.K.Advani from becoming PM of the country.
Asaduddin was responsible for extending party' influence beyond Hyderabad and Telangana. Under his leadership, the party has opened its offices in other states.
