Muthyam Reddy was elected as Thoguta sarpanch in 1970 and continued as sarpanch for continuously 18 years. In 1989, the then MLA, D. Ramachandra Reddy who trained his guns against TDP founder NTR, failed to get ticket. As a result, Muthyam Reddy contested on TDP ticket from Dommata and won as MLA. Later he continued his winning spree for three times. In 1999, he worked as Civil Supplies Minister. Later with TRS-Congress alliance, Ramachandra Reddy lost in the 2004 elections and the present MLA, Ramalinga Reddy emerged out as a winner. In 2005 by-poll, Muthyam Reddy lost again, when he was filded against minister T. Harish Rao. Later he didn't get ticket as TDP and TRS forged alliance in 2009. He was called by the then CM YS Rajasekhar Reddy and was offered a ticket. He defeated Ramalinga Reddy and worked as the member of TTD board and also appointed as the chairman of Committee on Estimates.
Muthyam Reddy has his own prominence and has created a mark for himself in the constituency. He spends most of his time in planning strategies for the development of the constituency and most of the developmental activities in the constituency has the backing of Muthyam Reddy. He played a significant role in the construction of 24 checkdams covering an area of 52 kms adjoining Kudavelli river to make optimum utilisation of the river water. He also took up the challenge of constructing model schools and model bus shelters in each village. He also wanted to construct market committees in every mandal so as to provide feasibility for the farmers.
