Political Background >
He began his political career with erstwhile Janata Party in 1979 by contesting from Chalakurti constituency, where he lost the first election. He was the first person to respond to the call given by Telugu Desam Party founder N.T. Ramarao in the year 1983 and contested the election. He also won by-elections in 1985 from the same constituency.
He differed with NTR during 1988 when Mr. Ramarao asked all his MLAs to put on papers and launched a new party-Telugu Mahanadu, which eventually merged with Congress and continuing from last 30 years. He played an active role in reviving the Congress Party specifically in the Telangana Region to fight the then ruling Telugu Desam Party which lost the elections in 2004 to the Congress Party.
Jana Reddy was sworn in as the Minister for Home Affairs in the 2004 AP Cabinet for his progressive contribution to the Congress Party. Known for his vast experience spanning 30 years in AP state politics, administration and impeccable track record, Mr. Reddy held different portfolios as Cabinet minister in Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, K. Rosaiah and N. Kumar Reddy's governments. He was active in Telangana movement and led different delegations to All India Congress Committee (AICC) to represent the issue of Telangana statehood. Now he is leader of opposition in Telangana Assembly.
Development activities: As the leader of opposition Mr. Reddy is pressurizing the government to take up different projects in the constituency. But, he alleges that ruling TRS has not released enough funds. However, IT Minister and son of CM KCR, another minister Jagadeesh Reddy have started concentrating on this constituency and taking up different schemes. Installation of Nagarjunasagar pumps on Flood Left Canal were completed and it will cater irrigation needs of 30 thousand acres.

As per the affidavit filed during 2014 elections, his assets were Rs.10.74 crores and there are no liabilities.

Nomula Narasaiah, TRS candiate in 2014 elections and who lost to Mr. Reddy is concentrating on constituency to defeat him in next elections. Minister Jagadeesh Reddy is eying on this constituency along with Tera Chinnapu Reddy who contested against Mr. Jana Reddy and later switched over to TRS.
