Mr. Reddy started his political career as member of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) in 1985 in Adilabad district and the party opted him to the post of Chairman, Zilla Parishad in the year 1987. After serving in the post for four years he was offered MP ticket in the year 1991 by TDP and he won the seat with considerable majority. He also stood victorious in 1996 by-election and switched over to Congress in the same year and he was elected to Assembly in the year 1999. He worked as member of Telangana Regional Congress Coordination Committee of Congress MLAs and again won during 2004 elections. He was elected to Lok Sabha again in 2008 by-polls. He was subsequently instrumental in raising Telangana statehood issue within the Congress and was convener of Telangana Congress Legislators Forum. He joined YSR Congress for a brief stint and resigned on the grounds of party's inconsistency on Telangana issue. After joining TRS, he put all his efforts in strengthening the party all over Adilabad district. He was rewarded with ticket from Nirmal in the year 2014 elections and also inducted into Cabinet by TRS president KCR.
Mr. Reddy is keen in supporting families of artisans of world famous Nirmal toys, paintings. He hosted Godavari Pushkaralu in big way and spent Rs.68 crores to reconstruct 389 important temples in Adilabad district. He brought Rs.514 crores for Sadarmat Barrage at Ponkal in Mamada mandal and four-line road construction, District police and Collector offices with Rs.60 crores and DIET college with Rs.4 crores apart from Mission Bhagiratha and Kakatiya. He succeeded in taking all the welfare measures to the doorstep of Nirmal people as well as other constituencies in the district. He defeated Congress candidate Maheshwar Reddy with a majority of 9,271 votes. In 2018 elections, he defeated A. Maheshwar Reddy, a Congress candidate with a majority of 9,271 votes.
