Political Background >
Mr. Pocharam is mostly known as a political leader with long experience by serving as minister in TDP and TRS governments. However, he worked in Congress for quite sometime before joining in TDP during 1984. He contested from Banswada constituency for the first time 1n 1994 and won the seat with huge margin against Congress candidate Beena Devi. In 1999 elections also he won from the same constituency and became a minister for Panchayat Raj in Chandrababu government. He was asked to resign from the post as he face serious charges in stationery scam. He lost elections in the year 2004 as he was defeated by Congress senior leader Bajireddy Govardhan, but he took revenge on Mr. Govardhan in 2009 elections and also won in by-polls against Sangam Srinivas Goud in 2011. He worked twice in Chandrababu Naidu government as minister, but resigned from TDP in support of separate statehood for Telangana in 2011. He was made politburo member of TRS in the same year and he fought 2014 election from his native Banswada and inducted by KCR into his cabinet. Mr. Pocharam defeated his nearest rival Congress contestant K. Balraj with a majority of 18,697 votes in the Telangana Assembly elections happened in 2018.
As a minister Mr. Reddy is trying to get agriculture based industries like food processing units and others as the majority of the people in the constituency depends on cultivating Soya beans, millets, paddy and pulses. Modernization works of Nizam Sagar canal is going on and construction of lifts are also taking place across Manjeera river. Along with Mission Bhageeratha works, extension of national highway has been taken up.
