Yuvajana Sramika Rythu Congress Party - YSRCP

After the sudden demise of his father and former Chief Minisrer of united Andhra Pradesh, Dr. YS Rajasekhar Reddy, Jaganmohan Reddy opposed to join hands with Congress and launched YSRCP on March 12, 2011. Most of the party leaders were of the opinion that Mr. Jagan's over confidence made him lose the oppurtunity to become Chief Minister in 2014. But, his ambition to become CM made Mr. Jagan to commence 'Praja Sankalpa Yatra' on November 6, 2017 to cover 125 constituencies across the state for six months covering 3 thousand kilometers. He faced crticism for his decision to boycott Assembly until the speaker disqualifies those MLAs who have joined TDP from YSR Congress Party. His act of appointing Prashant Kishore as the election strategist became sensation during the days.

Surprisingly, Mr. Jagan, as son of former Chief Minister, YSR and who was known for many populist policies, had vehemently opposed Naidu’s poll promise on loan waiver and refused to match him with similar promise, terming it unfeasible. The 2014 poll result shocked Jagan with his party winning 66 out of 175 seats and losing few dozen seats with petty margins. Of course, the YSR’s political successor sounded regretting his strategy on farm loan waiver many a time and of late began making several giant promises on populist and welfare schemes, starting with his Manifesto of Navaratnas or nine promises nearly two years ahead of 2019 elections. He has given his party leaders the responsibility to take the "Navaratnalu"-nine welfare measures-which are part of his election manifesto, into the public. His comments on Kapu reservations created flutters in the party. Later, Mr. Jagan changed his stand and cooled down his party leaders but failed to regain the faith in Kapu community. Mr. Jagan and other leaders in the party strongly believes that if YSR Congress did'nt caputre power in 2019 elections, the entity of the paty will be at stake.

Congress Mark Politics :

YS Jgan thought of entering politics in 2004 itself. On behalf of his son, former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy has asked Congress high command to allot Pulivendula ticket, which was denied by the party. Then he managed to get MP ticket for him in the year 2009 and he won from Kadapa Parliament seat with 1.78 lakh votes majority over his nearest rival Palem Srikanth Reddy of TDP. When YSR was Chief Minister and Mr. Jagan was MP, he developed rapport with Congress leaders at Delhi as well as in the state. But, suddenly, Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy died in a helicopter crash on 2 September 2009. At the time most of the Congress MLAs rallied behind Mr. Jagan and everyone in the party believed that Congress high command will make a formal announcement, appointing him as Chief Minister. However, the high command gave a unexpected shock to Mr. Jagan by appointing senior minister in the cabinet, K. Rosaiah as CM. Both Sonia and Rahul assured that they will extend support to him for his political future. Later, Vijayamma, wife of YSR contested from Pulivendula Assembly seat which was vacated due to YSR's demise. She was elected unopposed as opposition did not field it's candidate. Though he did not got the chance to become Chief Minister, Mr. Jagan continued in Congress for two years. At the same time the agitation for separate Telangana reached its peak and Chief Minister K. Rosaiah faced criticism for his stand on Telangana from his own party. Then, he appealed the high command to relieve him from the pressure and again Mr. Jagan's name took round in political circles for CM's post. But, again the high command disappointed Mr. Jagan by picking up N. Kumar Reddy, the then Speaker of the Assembly as Chief Minister. He took oath as CM on 25 November 2010. He was in records as he became Chief Minister without serving as minister in Congress government.

No confidence motion: Mr. Jagan's group, which failed to digest the development of making N. Kiran Kumar Reddy as CM, decided to fight against its own party government. The group alleged that Mr. Kiran's government is diluting welfare schemes like Arogyasri and fee reimbursement. On the other hand Sri Krishna Committee, which was appointed to study feasibility of giving separate statehood to Telangana gave its report to Center, within two months of Kiran's government came to power. In it's report the committee opinioned that it is not necessary to give separate Telangana, but special funds can be allocated for the development of backward districts both in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. The people of Telangana fired at the Sri Krishna Committee's report and intensified agitation for separate statehood. At this juncture, Mr. Jagan asked his mother Y.S. Vijayamma to move no confidence motion against Kiran's government. In this melee, Center intervened and sought the support of Actor turned politician Chiranjeevi's Praja Rajyam support. He declared support to Kiran's government and asked all its 18 MLAs to vote against no confidence motion. This strategic move of the Center again put Mr. Jagan's plan to topple the government with no confidence motion, has failed and for the third time he lost the opportunity to became CM.

Then, he took up "Odarpu Yatra" to console the families of the people who have lost their lives due to sudden demise of YSR. At the same time, he resigned to Congress party, which gave political life to his father YSR and also gave an opportunity to became MLA.

Launching of YSRCP :

Mr. Jagan launched YSR Congress Party in March, 2011. About 18 MLAs from Congress and TDP joined the new party by resigning to their MLA posts, which led to by-polls. On the other side, TRS MLAs also resigned to fight for separate statehood.

YSR Congress won good number of seats in 2011 by-elections both in Andhra and Telangana. Mr. Jagan who contested from Kadapa as MP has won with 5.45 lakh majority and his mother Vijayamma won from Pulivendula. In subsequent developments, Jagan was arrested by Enforcement Directorate and also CBI in cases related to disproportionate of assets and other financial irregularities. He was in jail for 16 months, during which his sister Sharmila took out Pada yatra. Her yatra gave boost up to the party cadre and got good response from public. After 16 months, Mr. Jagan came out form jail and continued his yatra, which also got tremendous response from public. Mr. Jagan thought that the burial of Congress party in Andhra as a result of bifurcation will strengthen his party and decided to go without allying with any party in 2014 elections. However, TDP president Chandrababu Naidu with his political experience and strategy has alligned with BJP and actor Pawan Kalyan.

In this election, Vijayamma lost as Visakhapatnam MP and YSRCP has settled with second place in many constituencies.
As a result YSRCP sat in opposition and it locked horns with ruling TDP on many issues in Assembly. At one time, Mr. Jagan stated that some of the TDP MLAs are in touch with him, which created flutters. Then TDP president Chandrababu Naidu started "operation akarsh" to pull YSRCP MLAs into TDP. Responding to this, 20 YSRCP MLAs joined TDP and this sudden development has shocked Mr. Jagan. He demanded speaker to disqualify all these MLAs, which was not considered by the speaker. Following this, the YSRCP decided to boycott Assembly sessions.

He took up another yatra for Special Category Status to Andhra Pradesh and asked his MPs to resign from Parliament. At the same time, BJP and Pawan Kalyan who supported TDP in 2014 elctions have distanced from their ally. Now, the YSRCP is using every opportunity to attack ruling TDP and maintaining cordial relations with BJP at Center.
