All India Majlis-e-ittehad-ul Muslimeen

The All India Majlis-e-ittehad-ul Muslimeen or AIMIM is a a recognized political Party from Telangana. It is headquartered in Aghapura, Hyderabad. It was founded by Nawab Mahmood Nawaz Khan Qileda in 1927 on advice of the Nizam of the Hyderabad State, Nawab Osman Ali khan. In the beginning, it was an organization with religious and cultural underpinning. In 1938, Bahadur yar jung was elected as the President and it developed political undertones and morphed into political party. After the demise of Bahdur yar jung in 1944, the political mantle was transferred to Qasim Razvi, who vehemently opposed the integration of hyderabad into India. The Razakars mobilized under his leadership to secure independence for hyderabad is said to have committed grievious crimes on innocent and poor peasants. After the annexation of the hyderabad state, MIM was banned and Qasim Razvi was jailed from 1948 to 1957. He was later released on the condition he be exiled to pakistan.

Before leaving, he handed the reins of MIM to Abdul Wahed Owaisi, a lawyer by profession, who transformed the party into its present form, All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul-Muslimeen. In 1975, Salahuddin Owaisi took over the reins of the party and under his leadership it became an influenctial political party in Old City. it has an impressive track record in elections held to hyderabad Consituency and has held the Hyderabad parliamentary Constituency since 1984. Asaduddin Owaisi, MP representing Hyderabad constituency, became the President after his father Salahuddin Owaisi withdrew from active politics in 2004.

Election Commission of India granted 'State party' status AIMIM after it secured 7 Assembly seats in 2014 elections held in Telangana. The party is considered a dominant political force in Hyderabad and its surrounding areas. It had decisive victories in the most of the assembly elections held in hyderabad. It is seen by some as voice and representation of the Muslim community in Telangana and Andhrapradesh though other parties like MBT has notable influence in Hyderabad. There is also a notion that the tactics employed by the party has support at the grassroot level but the educated members and intelligensia are less enthusiastic. Nevertheless MIM has been successful in giving a resounding voice to the muslim community.

The party' president Asaduddin Owaisi, aided by his brother and MLA of Chandrayagutta Akbaruddin Owaisi is able to spread its footprint to other states in india like Maharashtra, Bihar, Uttarpradesh etc. it has won two assembly seats in Maharashtra Assembly and emerged as the second largest party in Aurangabad Municipal Elections. Nonetheless its electoral success went hand in hand with controversies, Notably few cases were registered against Asaduddin Owaisi and his brother Akbaruddin Owaisi for inciting violence and communal hatred. In Telangans, the MIM supported the ruling party TRS in 2014 elections and this equation hasn't changed much since then. The party's president Asaduddin Owaisi and his brother Akbaruddin has reiterated their suport to TRS. There are other parties which are aiming for victory in the coming polls and the formation of grand alliance in Telangana could result in tough fight between ruling coalition and oppositions parties alliance. Other parties and prominent personalities like MBT and Jahed Ali Khan editor of Siasat daily could also have a bearing on the outcome of the elections in old cilty. Yet, Leaders of MIM and TRS have exuded confindence that people have put their faith in them and that their decisive victory in upcoming elections is certain.
