Dr. Reddy started his political career as Sarpanch of his native village Avancha in Timmajipet mandal of Mehaboobnagar district and also served as chairman of Single Window Society, Library authority of the mandal. He joined Telugu Desam Party and served about 11 years as active leader in different capacities in the party. He sought ticket from Jadcherla Assembly constituency from TDP in the year 1994 and again in 1999. Dr. Reddy contested as Independent in that election and got good number of votes. He was away from active politics for about an year and then joined BJP, where he could not adjust with the mindset of party leaders. After the foundation of TRS in the year 2001, he joined in the party and became party president of Mahaboobnagar district. As part of alliance between Congress and TRS, Jadcherla Assembly seat was allocated to Dr. Reddy during 2004 elections and he won convincingly. But, he was the first MLA to resign in response to the call given by party president and then MP of Mahaboobnagar, KCR. He was denied ticket in 2009 elections as there was an alliance between TRS-TDP. He played a significant role as party leader in the district and finally won from Jadcherla again in the year 2014 to repose the faith by on him by KCR. He was inducted into first cabinet as minister for energy and shifted as minister for medical and health after T. Rajaiah, then deputy chief minister and health minister was dropped from the ministry.
Development activities: Dr. Reddy upgraded 30-bedded Jadcherla hospital into 100-bedded and works are being initiated to upgrade Balanagar Primary Health Center (PHC) into 30-bedded hospital. He took initiative in bringing Udandapur reservoir tunnel works for which land acquisition. Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha works are going on in the constituency apart from giving facelift to Jadcherla town. H
e brought Degree College for Women to Jadcherla.
